Designer Notes: Test Before You Trust
- Set your full brand phrase — not just a word — in black on white and white on black. Briny’s contrast holds up, but its subtlety means some backgrounds (like busy photos or textured overlays) need extra testing.
- Print a mockup at actual size. I once approved Briny for a candle label on screen, only to find the lowercase ‘o’ and ‘c’ needed slight tracking adjustment when printed at 8mm height.
- Compare uppercase vs. lowercase usage. Briny’s uppercase has more presence — great for logos — while its lowercase offers gentle rhythm, perfect for subtitles or supporting text in editorial design.
- Review spacing in real context. Its default tracking works well for headlines, but tighten it slightly for logotypes and loosen it for pull quotes in blog graphics.
- Pair it deliberately: try Briny beside a classic serif font (think Merriweather or Playfair Display), a neutral sans serif font (Inter or Manrope), a restrained script font (not overly flourished), and even a grounded handwritten font.
